I stumbled across this quote about a week ago, in the midst of this pruning season that I’ve been camping in for the last year and suddenly it hit me - “consistency is a love language.”

Keeping up with the spirit of transparency, consistency is not something I have been very great at and it’s one of the traits I crave the most. I’m the queen of making sarcastic remarks about my “fear of commitment”, but truthfully I am fearful of inconsistency.

Growing up, my life was full of intermittent love and inconsistency. As you can imagine, this provoked fear, instability, and ultimately my lack of commitment.

Over the last year, I left an abusive relationship, ventured down the road of single parenting TWO beautiful kids, accepted promotions, worked two jobs, walked through trauma therapy, and extended a helping hand to women recovering from addiction and domestic violence. Yet, I swear I am afraid of commitment?!

My current lifestyle is full of mini commitments day in and day out. Rather than focusing on fear, I have chosen to be present and to capitalize on the opportunities and grace placed at my feet - walking through each and every mountain top and valley.

Thus bringing me to how I landed on this platform. 4 years sober and I am learning to gravitate towards every situation that makes me feel uncomfortable. I recently watched a video with Will Smith and he really changed my perception of self-discipline: “Self-discipline is the definition of self-love.”

I don’t know about you, but coming from a long history of abuse, discipline has always equated “punishment” for me. This video really ignited the spark within me to invest in myself - to seek out the things that set my soul on fire - to meet my own love language by finding an area in which I can engage in consistency.

So here I am - committing to writing each and every morning, pursuing my passion, sharing my experiences in hopes of helping one person breathe a little easier, and know that you are not alone. We are all just walking each other home… Have an awesome Tuesday!
